The Hilltribe Fund

The development of Lamphun junior cricket in Thailand is long term project but our aim is to put Lamphun on the junior cricket map. Due to limited manpower will can only have a manageable amount of participating schools, it takes time to teach the technique required to play even a game of Sawasdee cricket. The cricket development in Lamphun will also be down to the support we get from the schools and how many teachers will commit themselves, or any other willing volunteers to help out.

Chiang Mai Cricket Head coach Chris Dodd and the other CMSCA coaches are committed to the future development of cricket in Lamphun. We believe that with continued financial support to assist our programme, cricket will be a permanent fixture in many Lamphun schools for a long time to come.

Junior cricket in Thailand is a growing sport in many regions, we hope to continue that trend and put Lamphun junior cricket on the map. Junior cricket in Chiang Mai has been the backbone of junior cricket in Thailand, especially in Northern Thailand for many years, we hope that Lamphun cricket will also aspire to the highest levels too.

Introducing the CMSCA coaches working in Lamphun?

All the Chiang Mai Junior Cricket coaches are currently working in the Lamphun cricket programme.

Head coach for Lamphun is Chris Dodd with assistant Cherchoo Bengkamta.

Chiang Mai coaches who will assist in Lamphun, Martin & Puy Papworth and assistant coach Jun Aryi.

The cricket development in Lamphun has been a priority for all the coaches, Lamphun is one of the 71 provinces of Thailand, quite small in population and area, but still, we are only working in a small part of it. We are concentrating our resources in and around the city, every school no further than 10 km's from the city centre. Initially everyone will work in Lamphun especially due to amount of new schools in the programme, this will allow Lamphun to get up to speed quickly, as new schools take time to develop but with more coaches teaching technique to smaller groups "many hands makes light work". One has to remember that these children have no prior knowledge of cricket, there's no media coverage of cricket in Thailand so not even a chance to see it on the TV.

What we are all working towards?

To give all the children in the cricket programme in Lamphun the opportunity to play organised sport. The CMCSA are all professionally trained cricket coaches, who will endevour to help everyone enjoy this great game.

HTF Sponsorship Programme.
